Cetera has approved a number of Artificial Intelligence (AI) products. Please go to AdviceWorks > Support > Solutions, Services and Discounts to see a list of approved solutions.
It is important to confirm if there are limitations on the approved AI tool.
- Click on the tool listed in the Solutions, Services, and Discounts section of Adviceworks to see a pop up window with additional information, including the features that are not permitted.
- For example, Chat GPT is approved (Business or Enterprise version only). If you click on the ChatGPT info, another screen will pop up that provides more information, including the following:
- It states that relying on ChatGPT or any other AI tool to make trading or investment decisions, or to provide advice to clients is not permitted.
- The Free, Plus, and Pro plans of ChatGPT are prohibited.
- All information gleaned from ChatGPT must be fact-checked with multiple sources and properly cited.

It is important to understand the Firm’s policies when using Artificial Intelligence. Cetera has updated the Cetera Information Security Policies and Guidelines for Independent Financial Professionals compliance manual. Section 5.5 covers Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). This compliance manual is found in Pinpoint.
- Generative AI (GenAI) refers to an artificial intelligence technology that synthesizes new versions of text, audio, or visual imagery from large bodies of data in response to user prompts. Some GenAI models can be used in stand-alone applications, while others are incorporated into other applications such as internet search engines or word processing applications. If you have any questions about what constitutes GenAI, please contact aiteam@cetera.com.
Use of GenAI for Cetera-related business purposes must be approved by Cetera prior to using. Only approved GenAI tools may be used for Cetera-related business. A list of approved GenAI tools is included within AdviceWorks > Support > Solutions, Services and Discounts. Each approved Gen AI tool may have minimum requirements (e.g., licensing versions or other restrictions). Review each tool’s information for specific requirements before use.
Associated Persons are encouraged to explore the functionality of the GenAI tools that are approved for independent Financial Professional use. However, if no approved tools meet your needs, please submit a request to: aiteam@cetera.com. Please include with your request the tool that you would like to use and your business use case. Please note that review of AI tools is a rigorous process, and not all requests may be approved.
To comply with regulatory requirements:
- Do not rely on GenAI to create financial plans or investment strategies, to make trading or investment decisions, or to provide financial advice to Cetera clients.
- Do not use GenAI as a single source of information for use in communication or advertising, as GenAI can produce false, misleading, or incorrect content. All GenAI content must be verified and properly cited.
- Do ensure that any communication functionality in GenAI tools have been approved by Cetera, so that all communications can be appropriately retained and supervised.
- Do not use, design, or publish GenAI chatbots without approval from the Legal Department and Information Security. Any third-party chatbots must pass Cetera's vendor risk assessment prior to implementation. All chatbot responses must be reviewed and approved through Ad Review.
- Do not publish AI-generated content that violates applicable regulations or Firm policies, including Cetera policies on communications with the public.
Accepted GenAI Use Cases
If a request for a GenAI tool is approved:
- Cetera will add the tool to the list of approved tools;
- Access to the tool will be provided to users as needed; and
- Guidance will be provided on the acceptable usage of the tool.
Any use of GenAI, via platforms, tools, or software, must be consistent with Cetera policy and applicable law.
To maintain the confidentiality of Cetera information, including but not limited to personal information, Associated Persons are prohibited from sharing such information with any open-source or otherwise non-approved GenAI tools. Confidential information may only be shared with GenAI tools that are specifically approved for such purpose. To maintain confidentiality:
- Do not enter confidential information into open-source or other GenAI tools that have not been approved for this purpose.
- Do not enter personal information relating to employees, customers, representatives, or any other individuals into any open-source or other GenAI applications that have not been approved for this purpose.
- Do email aiteam@cetera.com if you are unsure whether information you are planning to enter falls into any of the above categories.
